Technical Information

Whitney Sawmills have prepared the following technical information to help with the correct application of of our timber products.

Flooring

  • Our Character grade English Oak  flooring is sold in 5 different widths , 100mm, 120mm, 150mm, 175mm and 200mm . As the name suggests the boards are full of character and interest , including clusters of knots (known as cats paws) and sound knots up to 50mm in diameter .

  • The boards are supplied unfinished and will require filling and sealing, once laid.

  • All our flooring is kiln dried down to 10%-12% , which is ideal for a modern centrally heated house, with radiators.

  • We wouldn’t recommend this solid timber flooring to be laid over underfloor heating, although this has been achieved successfully by some of our customers. If this is the situation in your project please speak to our staff about kilning your timber down to 8% moisture content to suit your individual requirements.

  • Flooring can also be made to order and supplied in any timber you require so please talk to our staff about other timbers that you are interested in.

Skirtings

  • Our Character grade oak skirtings are sold in 2 widths, 150mm and 100mm and with either a Torus , Ogee or Plain Chamfer moulding. As the name suggests the boards are full of character and interest , including clusters of knots(known as cats paws) and sound knots up to 50mm in diameter .

  • The boards are supplied unfinished and will require filling and sealing , once fitted . All our skirting is kiln dried down to 10%-12% , which is ideal for a modern centrally heated house.

  • Skirtings  can also be made to order and supplied in any timber you require so please talk to our staff about other timbers that you are interested in.

Architraves

  •  Our Oak architraves  are sold in 65mm widths  and with either a taurus , ogee or plain chamfer moulding

  • The architraves  are supplied unfinished and will require filling and sealing , once fitted . All our architraves  are kiln dried down to 10%-12% , which is ideal for a modern centrally heated house .

  • Architraves can also be made to order and supplied in any timber you require so please talk to our staff about other timbers that you are interested in.
